I would like to finish in under 3:50. I am using the Hal Higdon Intermediate II training schedule. Long-Term Running Goals: Qualify for Boston 2010 Personal: I am 38 y/o andjust finishing up medical school. It is difficult to keep up with rigorous training schedules and med school...but I find it is one of the only ways for me to get some time to clear my head.
I dedicate all of my races to an elementary school in Zambia that my parents are helping to build. For this year, I found a corporate donor (via ebay) that is donating $9000 to the school. In exchange, I have offered to wear pajamas bearing their slogan while I train and race! (I know...its pretty crazy...but its all for a great cause) More info about me and my running can be found at MilesForMacha.com

9:02 overall pace miles 1 through 6 at 8:39 miles 7 & 8 at 10:26 - Had to walk a bit...ran out of steam.

| | Today was not a speed day. I took the advice of a running friend. "start slow...finish strong" My overall pace today for the 17.02 miles was 9:40 I ran the first 13 miles at 10:00 Miles 14 & 15 at 9:30 Mile 16 at 8:30 Mile 17 at 8:10 I don't know if this is the best strategy for training, but I have to say it is a HUGE confidence boost to be able to run the entire session (did not walk at all) and finish with a little kick!
| |
| | Today was an interval day. overall pace was 8:43 1:30 cycle - jogged for 1 min 5 sec and then sprinted for 25 sec throughout the course of the run. I just wanted to say "Thanks" to everyone on this site. I am amazed at the friendly and encouraging environment. I have not had too much time to check out other sections of the site, but as I get time I will read more. Thanks again!

| | Don't know my pace because I stopped to help a 68 year old man after a head on bike collisions. Had to wait for the ambulance to come for him. He is ok...but its always best not to take any chances, so I insisted he go to the hospital.
| |
| | 9:18 overall pace miles 1-10 at 9:28 mile 11 at 8:36 mile 12 at 8:18 wish I would have pushed a little harder in the beginning, but it was one of those morning where I felt like my feet were made of cinder blocks...took a few miles to get into it.

Nike+ Human race 10K (6.25 Miles) 00:59:27 | | I ran this race with my girlfriend. Slow and steady pace. It was the first time she had run more than 5 miles...and she did it all without walking. Poorly organized race. 15,000 runners and the space for the start and finish was way too small. The course was a narrow bike path and they didn't spread out the start enough to make things flow smooth. I was just running it for fun with my girlfriend, so I didnt mind, but I know alot of people were very frustrated.

| | I am leaving for Africa this evening. I will be there for 7 weeks. While over there, I will be helping in a local hospital and helping with the new school and boarding home that my parents are working on. It will be a challenge to keep up with my training schedule! I will be posting stories and pictures on my blog at MilesForMacha.com, so if you are interested, please take a look. | |
| | 9:35 pace I am in Zambia Africa. After a 48 hours or travel, I was not exactly ready to run, but I did. elevation in Macha, Zambia is 3993ft compared to about 600 in Chicago...so this is going to take some adjustment!
|
| | Overall pace was 9:12 I struggling with the hills and elevation here in Zambia. I guess I will just have to take it slow and adjust :)
Thanks for all the advice and support from members on this site!
|
| | first 4 miles at 8:55 and the remainder at 9:13 feeling a little better with the runs here in Africa. now I just need to get a long run in this week. I've had to adjust my training schedule a little bit, but I think all in all, I will be able to get most of the runs in.
|
| | 8:57 pace. This is my first sub 9min pace since arrivng in Africa. Lots of things going on that make it difficult to run, but I am trying o get as much in as possible. hopefully I will get a chance soon for a long run, as I have not followed my training schedule very well over the past 2 weeks. |
| | overall pace 10:22
Its been a while since I have been able to post my training. I have not had access to internet in quite a while.
I just got back from spending the past 2 months in Africa. Sticking to my training was extremely difficult. Between the heat and my schedule, I have had to adjust my training quite a bit. I am expecting to finish NewYork about 15-20 minutes slower than I originally planned. But I wouldn't trade my time in Africa for anything!
The New York Marathon is only 1 week away. I am taking this week easy after this long run on Saturday. I didn't push hard on Sat, so I am feeling pretty good. Hopefully I will be ready on Sunday for the big day!
|
| | overall pace 8:14 this short run felt good. I was a little worried, having run 20 miles on saturday, but no real worries. Only a few days left 'til New York!
|
| | 9:01 overall pace my coldest run of the season (about 38). sure is a huge contrast to the temperatures i was running in while in Africa. My lungs didnt like it too much, but not too bad. Just trying to eat and sleep well the next couple of days...NY is just around the corner. | |
